California Pacific Medical Center's Department of Radiation Oncology offers a wide range of conventional and innovative treatments provided in a patient-centered, caring environment. Radiation Oncology is often the first line of attack in eradicating tumor cells. At California Pacific Medical Center we offer the state-of-the-art treatment modalities to treat a wide variety of malignancies including Trilogy® Radiotherapy System, a revolutionary image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) for non-invasively treating tumors in the brain or other critical anatomy.
In the Sunday edition of the New York Times dated January 24, 2010 there was a front page article on two separate incidents that happened in New York hospitals where patients were overexposed during their Radiation Therapy treatments.
Though some of the equipment and some of the techniques mentioned in the article are similar to those used at our facility, be assured that in delivering the most current and sophisticated radiation therapy treatments available, patient safety is our foremost concern. We have multiple safeguards and quality assurance guidelines in place for every patient and for every treatment. These safeguards have prevented an occurrence of this nature from happening at California Pacific.
For Radiation Oncology at California Pacific, we use an exacting protocol for quality confirmation with each treatment; wherein every treatment plan is meticulously reviewed before the treatment starts. Daily quality assurance checks are performed on each treatment machine, and dosimetry or dose delivery is monitored as the treatment occurs.
Each patient’s treatment is planned, monitored and delivered by experienced board-certified radiation oncologist, medical physicist, medical dosimetrist and radiation therapists thereby assuring safe, accurate treatment. Our staff members fulfill rigorous on-going safety training and compliance education related to the administration of radiation therapy.
