Success Story: Stroke Telemedicine
Your gifts at work
Make a contribution to life-saving technology
The California Pacific Neurosciences Institute (CPNI) brings together the best specialists with the latest technology to offer advanced treatment options to our patients, including Stroke Telemedicine.
Generous individual gifts to CPMC Foundation enabled the Comprehensive Stroke Care Center to purchase necessary communications equipment and software to connect with physicians and patients at outlying facilities. In 2009 there were four facilities participating in this project and now there are ten, with another six interested in connecting to this life-saving network.
Telemedicine's critical role in stroke care
“We have found telemedicine to be an extremely useful tool for triage and acute management of stroke patients,” notes David Tong M.D., director of the California Pacific Comprehensive Stroke Care Center. “Not only do the physicians greatly appreciate the ready access to our highly trained experts, but patients also appreciate the ability to bring this expertise to them, without the need to transfer the patient from their local area.” Read the complete article by Dr. Tong as featured in CPMC Neurosciences Institute's most recent bulletin.
Immediate care, thanks to generous funding
Time is critical when caring for a patient who may be having a stroke. Smaller hospitals often lack the specialists to quickly diagnose strokes and administer lifesaving clot-busting drugs (thrombolytics). Through the Telemedicine Project, they have access to neurological specialists at CPMC's Comprehensive Stroke Care Center. Many lives have already been saved through telemedicine technology, and many more will be saved in the future thanks to generous funding to this project.
Because life is precious, we encourage giving to life and a lifetime of giving.
