When Adrienne Kernan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, she was preparing to retire from a nursing career that had spanned almost half a century. Adrienne's disease was detected on a screening mammogram at California Pacific Medical Center's Breast Health Center. Right away, the 70-year-old longtime Bay Area resident knew that her life and health were in very good hands.

Adrienne says, "My disease was discovered at an early stage, before it had a chance to spread. Because it was promptly and effectively treated, my chance of a recurrence is less than five percent."

California Pacific has made cancer care a priority, creating a wide array of excellent programs for prevention, detection, diagnosis and therapy. With the recent opening of our new Bryan Hemming Cancer Care Center, we address every aspect of the well-being of people with cancer and their loved ones—medical, emotional, psychological and spiritual—in one exceptionally healing, comforting place.

Among CPMC Foundation's current major funding priorities are upgrades to our Radiation Oncology CT Simulator and Linear Accelerator, two pieces of equipment that played crucial roles in Adrienne's successful care.

We also urgently need support for our Breast Health Center. This vital program annually performs more than 57,000 mammograms and other diagnostic procedures, detecting hundreds of breast cancers every year.
